Hapag-Lloyd has taken delivery of the Wilhelmshaven Express, the twelfth and final vessel in its eco-friendly Hamburg Express class.
The German-flagged containership was recently handed over to the company and has since embarked on its maiden voyage, according to a social media statement from Hapag-Lloyd.
As reported, Wilhelmshaven Express is scheduled to arrive in Shanghai on 12 June, with subsequent stops planned in Tanjung Pelepas and Port Tangier Mediterranee.
The vessel is powered by dual-fuel engines capable of running on liquefied natural gas (LNG), aligning with the company’s commitment to sustainability. Measuring 399 meters in length and 61 meters in width, the ship can reach speeds of up to 22 knots.
With their large capacity, forward-thinking design, and LNG dual-fuel engines, this series of vessels are set to greatly improve efficiency and are projected to reduce emissions by 20 to 25% in the near future.
