On 5 June the Korean register (KR), MAPSEA and G-Marine Service signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive digital transformation and data-driven operations in the shipping industry.
As announced, the tripartite agreement is expected to serve as a foundation for transforming fragmented data across the industry into a system that allows for integration, processing and practical use. This aims to support the digital transformation of the maritime sector while also strengthening ESG response capabilities and improving operational efficiency.
Through the MoU, the Korean Register will contribute its classification expertise, G-Marine will provide operational data from commercial fleets and Mapsea will deliver big data and AI-powered analytics through its platform using AI to integrate and analyze over 100 million pieces of maritime big data collected from 9 million ships worldwide.
The platform will offer insights into:
- Ship location and route information
- Weather and tidal data
- RightShip ratings
- Fuel consumption and carbon emissions
This three-party agreement is a structural attempt to transform accumulated shipping data into industrial assets from the perspectives of efficiency, sustainability, digital transformation and AI-driven systems.
