On 23 May, Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) officially launched its electric vessel charging station at its Pandan Loop facility in Singapore.

The station is part of the growing coastal electric vessel charging infrastructure and supports Singapore’s first fully electric cargo vessel, the Hydromover, as well as other electric harbour craft. Developed in partnership with Yinson GreenTech, the initiative aligns with national efforts to reduce emissions and foster sustainable port operations.

This launch follows WSS’s involvement in the Coastal Sustainability Alliance (CSA) over the past two years, where it has collaborated with industry partners to promote electric vessel adoption.

WSS President Kjell Andre Engen highlighted the importance of the project in reducing emissions, improving air quality, and helping customers meet Scope 3 emissions targets within their supply chains. Yinson GreenTech’s marine electrification arm, marinEV, also emphasized the importance of infrastructure in scaling maritime electrification. With advanced vessels like the Hydromover 2.0 and Hydroglyder entering service, robust charging capabilities like those at Pandan Loop are vital for efficient, low-carbon port operations.

The launch event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live demonstrations, and a panel discussion on electrifying port operations and addressing indirect emissions.

To remind, in early 2024, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) selected the Pyxis Energy, Pyxis Maritime and SP Mobility partnership, Seatrium O&G (International), and Yinson Electric, for their vessel charging concepts to be piloted in Singapore.
