A fire broke out on the Song Doc offshore oil platform on 21 May during decommissioning work, resulting in the death of one worker and injuries to seven others.
The platform is part of Vietnam’s first offshore oil platform removal project, operated by Petrovietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP) through its subsidiary PVEP POC.
The fire, which occurred while a subcontractor was cleaning and dismantling the platform, was reported to have been brought under control within 30 minutes.
Furthermore, authorities confirmed there was no pollution or damage to nearby oil and gas operations. Although the exact number of workers present during the incident is unknown, videos from the scene showed a fireboat actively combating the flames.
Local media reported on the casualty figures, however official statements have yet to confirm them.
