An explosion onboard the waste disposal vessel Hunts Point on 24 May claimed the life of one person and injured two others while the ship was docked at a Hudson River pier near the North River Wastewater Treatment Plant in New York.
As reported, the blast occurred around 10:30 AM local time inside the vessel, damaging part of its hull with emergency crews, including rescue boats and helicopters, responding quickly and securing the area.
As a result of the explosion however, the victim was thrown into the water and was fatally trapped between the vessel and the dock.
In addition, two other plant employees working on the vessel at the time were injured and transported to the hospital by the New York Fire Department. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.
