On 15 May 2025, the Libyan Military Forces issued a circular implementing new maritime security procedures relating to underwater hull inspections of vessels within 12 nautical miles of Libyan territorial waters.

According to Dryad Global, airstrikes have been carried out in al Zawiya and at the fishing port of al-Maya, which is located 30 kilometers east of al Zawiya.

While all Libyan ports, except for Sirte, are reported to be operational for internationally trading ships, Gard Club recommends assessing all port calls on a case-by-case basis and ensuring appropriate protective measures are incorporated into ship security plans.

All Libyan ports, except for the ports of Derna and Sirte, are reported to be operational. However, the fluid military conditions in the country could change the situation at short notice, so all port calls should be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Due to highly volatile situation in Libya, the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) issued Ship Security Advisory to provide to vessels that have decided to enter Libyan territorial waters or call at a Libyan port.

Following the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, Libya's Tripoli-based Government of National Accord decided to close all air and sea ports, as it has declared the situation as a state of emergency.
