Union Maritime is set to take delivery of a new Long Range 2 (LR2) tanker, Brands Hatch, featuring a wind propulsion system developed by BAR Technologies.
As announced on 4 June, during Nor-Shipping 2025, the vessel represents the first newbuild tanker installation of the WindWings® system and is expected to contribute to the adoption of wind-assisted propulsion technologies across the global shipping fleet.
Furthermore, this delivery is part of Union’s Maritime broader strategy to integrate wind-assisted technology across a fleet of 34 vessels, with at least 14 planned to be equipped with WindWings®. Once complete, the fleet is expected to be the largest of its kind using wind-assisted propulsion.
As stated, the vessel is designed to meet global sustainability regulations through 2030, including full compliance with the FuelEU Maritime regulation and achieving the maximum 5% Wind Reward Factor.
